Willow Weaving: Make a Tray at Phillies Bridge Farm Project

Willow Weaving: Make a Tray!
Saturday, September 21st, 10 AM – 1 PM
with Jesica Clark

During this workshop, participants will be introduced to the wonders of willow weaving! We will make a beautiful little tray, all out of my homegrown willow, that can be used to hold your keys, eggs, cherry tomatoes, whatever! Basic weaving techniques will be covered as well as a brief introduction to the willow plant and its many uses.

Jesica Clark is the owner and operator of Willow Vale Farm, where she grows vegetables as well as grows and weaves with willow, a naturally beautiful and sustainable material. The colors come from willow’s own ability to produce pleasing hues and the forms are a result of her conversation with each piece she weaves. Her willow and produce are grown without pesticides and with loving care.

Please register by September 19th, $25 ($20 for members) and $15 for supplies to be paid directly to Jesica.

Fresh Produce and Healthy Shortcuts
Saturday, September 14th, 10-11:30 AM
with Nava Atlas

Often, when people consider improving their diet, one of the main obstacles is the eternal question of “What’s for dinner?” There’s also the notion that healthy cooking is time-consuming, complicated, and expensive. This workshop will show you how to make amazing dinners even after a long, tiring day. Combining fresh produce with natural ready-made sauces and other convenient ingredients that can be found in most supermarkets, you’ll learn how to make a healthy vegan dinner any day of the week in 20 minutes — or less! This event is a demo and tasting.

Nava Atlas is the author of many bestselling vegetarian and vegan cookbooks, including Wild About GreensVegan Holiday KitchenPlant Power and many others, including the forthcoming  5-Ingredient Vegan (fall 2019). She also creates visual books on women’s issues and runs two websites, The Vegan Atlas and Literary Ladies Guide

Tai Chi Classes at Gardiner Library!

$12 per class or 4 for $40.Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese, defensive martial art, now practiced primarily for its health and exercise benefits. Tai Chi will help the practitioner achieve better strength and balance and is, therefore, especially helpful to people as they age. It does not require a lot of exertion to practice, as all of the moves done by beginners are slow and gentle.

The beginning student will learn one or two moves in each class. The moves connect smoothly and gently together into an artful form that, over time, will increase a person's stamina, balance, strength, and vigor. It is truly fun, and not arduous, unlike many other forms of exercise.

Joseph Bergin has practiced Yang Style Tai Chi since 2004. He studies with Martha Cheo who has practiced for over 20 years and taught for many years as well.

You should wear comfortable, non-binding clothing. Flat-bottomed shoes are best, but not required. $12 per class or 4 for $40
